Our Services
Six practice areas delivering end-to-end geospatial intelligence and digital solutions across East Africa.
Digital Water & Water Utility Informatics Modernizing asset tracking through serverless, lightweight open-source geospatial databases designed for low-bandwidth environments.
At GeoFront, we bridge the gap between regional water infrastructure and modern information technology through tailored hydroinformatic solutions. We specialize in designing robust PostGIS databases and deploying custom web applications utilizing cutting-edge Mapbox Vector Tile (MVT) technology. Traditional web maps rely on heavy raster images, which are slow to load and expensive to maintain. In contrast, vector tiles cache, scale, and serve spatial data as lightweight code. This makes them exceptionally fast, offering full design flexibility while drastically lowering total operation and maintenance costs.
This serverless architecture provides a vital solution for regional infrastructure management. Because internet connection speeds remain low or unstable in many rural and developing areas across Africa, conventional mapping platforms often fail. Our optimized vector tiles ensure that municipal operations, maintenance teams, and engineers can enjoy smooth, uninterrupted map browsing on both computers and smartphones, even in low-bandwidth environments. Furthermore, because many water service providers lack the budget or technical infrastructure to maintain dedicated local servers, GeoFront deploys these toolkits directly onto serverless GitHub Pages platforms. This eliminates hosting overhead and provides a truly sustainable, serverless geospatial toolset for the utility sector.
Proven Client Use Cases
Our team's data architecture powers the live, official mapping infrastructures used daily by municipal and national water authorities across East Africa:
Use Case 1: Narok Water & Sewerage Services Co., Ltd. (Kenya)
A custom web-based frontend facilitating spatial analytics and network visualization to support field operations. The platform converts raw PostGIS infrastructure records into an instantly accessible web map. Explore the live utility asset registry on the NARWASSCO Web Map Portal.
Use Case 2: Nanyuki Water and Sewerage Co., Ltd. (Kenya)
Leveraging Free and Open Source Geographic Information Software (FOSS4G) to map over 48,000 active service connections. This setup enables real-time client visualization, actively helping the utility identify network leaks, reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW), and optimize billing operations. View the live utility application via the NAWASCO GIS Platform.
Use Case 3: Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC Rural Water — Rwanda)
National-scale tracking of rural water networks running completely on a low-cost, decentralized GitHub Pages workflow developed alongside the United Nations Vector Tile Toolkit framework. This system maps vast national rural distribution networks smoothly on standard mobile devices without requiring expensive central databases. Access the comprehensive countrywide data layer at the WASAC Rural Water Network.
