Leveraging Free and Open Source Geographic Information Software (FOSS4G) to map over 48,000 active service connections. This setup enables real-time client visualization, actively helping the utility identify network leaks, reduce Non-Revenue Water (NRW), and optimize billing operations.
National-scale tracking of rural water networks running completely on a low-cost, decentralized GitHub Pages workflow developed alongside the United Nations Vector Tile Toolkit framework. This system maps vast national rural distribution networks smoothly on standard mobile devices without requiring expensive central databases.
Designed the sampling strategy and supervised field surveys across six sub-counties in Kilifi County, Kenya, reaching 15,000–50,000 rural households. GeoFront's team conducted the baseline GHG emissions assessment and developed a Gold Standard–aligned carbon portfolio, oversaw EIA/ESIA activities including stakeholder consultations and social impact integration, designed MRV systems, and supported community engagement and equitable benefit-sharing. The project advances emissions reduction, public health, and SDG-aligned development.
GeoFront carried out the baseline greenhouse gas emissions assessment for the Iconic Nairobi Central Railway Station and Public Square project area, drawing on data from the JICA NUTRANS project for transport emissions alongside calculations for electric devices, incinerators, locomotives, and water-pumping engines. The assessment combined qualitative and quantitative analysis of road transport, electricity consumption, waste generation, and incineration practices — supported by satellite imagery for accuracy — to inform mitigation strategies for the area.
GeoFront assessed changes in salinity levels across countries in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) region over a ten-year period, using MODIS satellite data to understand the impact of environmental factors and human activity on soil resources across the Horn of Africa.
GeoFront monitored the impact of charcoal production on natural vegetation and its dynamics using very-high-resolution satellite imagery, contributing to the PROSCAL (Programme for Sustainable Charcoal Reduction and Alternative Livelihoods) initiative.
GeoFront contributed technical expertise to developing a measurement, reporting, and verification system to estimate land-based emissions in Kenya, implemented through the Clinton Climate Initiative and funded by the Australian and Kenyan governments — an engagement worth KES 26 million.
GeoFront served as remote sensing expert to Nature Kenya on the Cherangani Hills Forest Strategic Ecosystem Management Plan, a roadmap to mitigate threats facing the Cherangani ecosystem, and carried out baseline resource mapping using Earth Observation data across the forest ecosystem.
